We poisoned Eagles to the brink of extinction with DDT. After more than 30 years on the endangered species list and millions of dollars spent on their restoration, eagles have "taloned" their way back from that brink. Will we learn from the past, or will we risk their future with another poison...LEAD

Each fall and winter, facilities like SOAR across the country admit hundreds of eagles with lead poisoning. Living in the wild, Eagles face tremendous adversity on a daily basis, Lead Poisoning is preventable, but we must change....

Iowa wildlife rehabilitators are collecting data on all admitted eagles (alive and DOA). These facilities include: Black Hawk Wildlife Rehabilitation Project, MacBride Raptor Project, SOAR, and the Wildlife Care Clinic. Between September 1, 2011 and April 15, 2012:

▶44 eagles admitted
▶34 of these were lead exposure or poisoning cases as revealed through blood, liver, or bone testing
▶28 of the 34 have died

So without lead in the system -- we would only have admitted 10 eagles in that same time frame. How long will eagles be able to sustain an almost tripling of their mortality rate? Change is necessary....

SOAR encourages all hunters and firearms shooters to "go lead free" for wildlife and human health, please visit:
