On the evening of February 3, 2011, reserve Sgt. Benjamin Anthony of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), gave a talk in the Main Lecture Hall at Hampshire College, in Amherst, MA. He founded the organization, "Our Soldiers Speak" [http://www.oursoldiersspeak.org/], in order to share with the general public the experience of military service in one of the world's most controversial conflict zones. He spoke as an individual, and not as a representative of the military or government, which do not sponsor or fund him. Although Hampshire College staff introduced the talk by explaining the rules of civil discourse, a student group organized the event and the College, as such, was not the sponsor. Well-organized pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place before, during, and after the talk.
Here, pro-Israel students have just concluded singing, "Od Avinu Chai" (our forefathers live on, the people of Israel lives), and the more numerous pro-Palestinian demonstrators respond with a rousing chorus of "Free Palestine""
