This is the song "Before I Gaze at You Again" from the 1960 Broadway musical "Camelot" starring Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. The Music and Lyrics are by Alan Jay Lerner and Fredrick Loewe. The Song was unfortunately left out of the 1967 film version of the musical, partly due to the fact that Julie Andrews would not recreate her role as Guenevere in the movie but instead Vanessa Redgrave would take the role (who BTW did an excellent job.)
so epic, can you imagine seeing this live back in the day?

I have to echo what the other posters have said. The first time I heard this song as a young man of about 22, I cried...it SO resonated with me and my experience. The sentiment has mellowed since then, but it still gives me a wistful smile...and it's so very, very lovely.

I was raised on Broadway musicals and Camelot has always been a sentimental favorite. And this song - who hasn't had to let go when they didn't want to? - is so achingly beautiful. THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me find it again.
