"Everyone likes that little something extra ...

A dozen rolls and the baker tosses in an extra one to make it a baker's dozen.

The butcher throws in an extra bone for the bow wow.

Every locality has a different name for it.

Way down in east in New England they call it 'something to boot.'

In the Deep South they call it 'lanya'

At your neighborhood service station they call it Esso."

AKA Exxon.

And the little "something extra" today, in 2007?

The exorbitant price of gasoline, while the oil cartels make record profits.

I realize I am an unredeemable geezer for YouTube at 39, but I remember Happy Motoring- I have no idea what current Exxon or Mobil ads are. Just post the logo big and sing a bit, how hard is that.

This was a "commercial" produced for movie theaters, circa 1938; "YOUR ESSO REPORTER" was also the title of a daily radio newscast on many local stations in areas where Esso gasoline was sold [in the East and Midwest], and used for this ad as well.

I grew up in Missouri, part of the Standard of Indiana area (no Esso/Exxon stations) and they had a nice non-threatening torch and oval. "You expect more from Standard... and you get it!"

IMHO, the smiling morphing sign is neat...
