At your neighborhood service station they call it Esso."

This was a "commercial" produced for movie theaters, circa 1938; "YOUR ESSO REPORTER" was also the title of a daily radio newscast on many local stations in areas where Esso gasoline was sold [in the East and Midwest], and used for this ad as well.

@send2meez I grew up in Missouri, part of the Standard of Indiana area (no Esso/Exxon stations) and they had a nice non-threatening torch and oval. "You expect more from Standard... and you get it!"
IMHO, the smiling morphing sign is neat...

My daddy is an ESSO man he has been since he was 17!!! I love my esso man! He used to come home stinking like gas when I kid but i still loved him!!!
