Events in this footage:
- Candy speaks again about the "no professionals" masquerade rule and other masquerade issues
- The con gripe panel decides at this time to cut any remaining complaints down to a 2-minute time limit
- Gina and Chrissy of the cosplay group Sailor Jamboree speak against the exclusory nature of the "no-professionals" rule
I do not believe your conclusion proceeds from your evidence. I think the size of most Anime conventions has more to do with very high popularity (think "demand" in economic terms), combined with relative scarcity of conventions (think "supply" in economic terms). Until we see a much larger number of conventions (more supply), I don't think we'll see them get better.

You're right that staff don't get paid, that is true of any event along these lines. This is why should should try to be polite to them. I strongly suspect this isn't true of the executive committee (pretty well anyone at the table on the stage).

Looks like they listened to all of your gripes for the 2007 convention -- NOT!!

proffesionals are not allowed because they use the masq to advertise their cam whore selves, and then incidents where cosplays where damaged intentionally seems to rise when they are around

For the record.. OTAKON is NOT better than AX! Come east coast and you'll only find yourself in a smaller con with the same prevailant problems year after year. On 2006, they actually held the con same time as Giants game, resulting in no hotel, parking, cosplayers being harrassed in the streets by baseballfans, staff yelling at cosplayers in frustration (they don't get paid), etc...

Well for one thing, all I could say is that someone like Kenji would never understand my pain. Especially to the humilation I went through at AX06.

As far as AX never being a successful event, I think the fact that there were 40,000 atendees last year, and 32,000 the previous year shows that AX is indeed a successful event. Another thing to keep in mind is that con staffers get paid nothing. Things happen all over AX even outside of cosplay events. The best thing to do is just try again, or suggest things that could make aspects of AX better in the future, not make it some personal vendetta to get revenge on people.

Well I never had problems with my badgeholder, but I understand the fact that if a lot of people are saying theirs fell off, then AX will have to improve by making sure that the holders and the lanyards never fail again.
