@kennnmoran1 Jody wrote me and told me that the song was written for anyone disenfranchised from the 'system'. Going your own road, doing your own thing, that society does not necessarily approve of (legal stuff that is), such as growing your hair long in the mid-60's, or any other modality. From Jody herself: "Home of The Brave talks about individuals who march to their own drum". And that's the way it is on Tuesday, July 5th, 2011. Thank-You and Good-Night.
I do stand corrected, in that Jody Miller is no relation to Roger Miller, although they did appear together on his TV show. I sent an email to Jody Miller and she responded that there is no relation.
TODAYS GAY youth!!!!!!!!!!!! What in the sam hill are you talking about...THIS SONG COULD JUST A EASYLY BE ABOUT a 7 year old kid whos father is in Iraq fighting for his life...the kid is driving around on his bike with an AMERICAN FLAG flying behind him...he is wearing army kid BDU's and is coming home from a MULTI CULTURAL SCHOOL WHERE THEY JUST BURNED AN AMERICAN FLAG AND HUNG ANOTHER ONE BELOW THE MEXICAN FLAG in a multi cultural neighborhood school. yea its timeless but not about gays.

This was my favorite Jody Miller song. I believe it was written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. The song was great and Jody did a fabulous job on it.

@beaconmike If it was Roger Miller's daughter he was only 7 when she was born. Must have gotten an early start.

Yeah because flags are being burned every day by those invading Mexicans. Sheesh some people should watch them a little less Glen Beck.
