"Just A Closer Walk With Thee" is a side from one of the most popular spiritual albums ever recorded. Ernie originally recorded it in 1957, and then re-recorded it in 1962 for the benefit of stereo sound, a development that found many recording artists returning to the studio to re-record songs originally done in monaural. Regardless of any spiritual proclivity you may have, the recording can be appreciated on more than just a religious level.

  • This guy had arguably the finest voice of any "popular" entertainer of his (or maybe any) era. A classically trained singer, Ford had a beautiful but very distinctive tone. Very pleasing to the ear. My gripe, besides the fact that he didn't take care of himself, is that he didn't sing much "Great American Songbook" material ... Gershwin, Arlen, Berlin, Warren, Porter, etc.

  • @larrydonguy Excellent points with which I'd have to agree. Thanks for the note.

  • What the real shame is today this fine gentleman would be considered a right wing radical by the media.

  • @terrisonb Well, Ernie wasn't quite as "devout" as his public persona led many to believe so I don't think he would have been considered anything close to being a radical.

  • @Nocaro I donb't mean to trash a famous person, but I was wondering what you mean by not quite as devout. I know about his alcoholism. Are you referring to the fact that he remarried four months after his first wife's death? Sometimes that type of thing happens but there is nothing going on prior to the first wife's death. I knew a guy who married a friend of his wife six months after her death. There was nothing going on between them. He just knew her as a friend and he was very lonely.

  • @ChicagoSouthDan And I don't mean to disparage Ernie Ford in any fashion. It's just that many people have perceptions of celebrities like Ernie that are far from what the reality was. He made mistakes like all of us.

    Thanks.

  • no matter what he did or done the LORD notes the use of his voice to exhault his holy name

  • @Nocaro Nut jobs always gotta make shit political and add paranoid comments while the whole time watching a hate-mongering station like fox news. (And no I don't watch msnbc or cnn either so you can forget that argument.)
