She does away with melody or rather totally reconstructs it-stripes it totally and replaces it with the natural cadence of the human voice. It’s as though you’re hearing your beloved speaks to you and only to you so that you hear a type of song that’s barely associated with music.

Billie in the later years when it was said her spirit was broken, her voice was broken, her mind was broken and her brain was broken. Baloney! Just listen to her here. Great jazz feeling, perfect respect for the lyrics, and artistic wisdom in her delivery.
The voice and approach are different from her younger years, but just as valid and just as interesting.
