With the big Electric Vehicle event coming up at Bathurst's Mount Panorama track on July 29th, it was great to have Robert and Lorry from Enersys come on board with a batch of their high-discharge led acid batteries - the Odyssey PC680.

With a 1000Amp motor EVnetics motor controller supplied by Anthony Nicholls, the car is going to absolutely scream at the Bathurst Electric Car Symposium!

Here's a short work-in-progress video of the build as at June 25th, 2010.
(Apologies for the quality... I shot it on my iPhone... if I took my pro camera gear, I wouldn't get any actual car building done!!)

  • hey mate. just wondering what motor you're running in the formula v? ad or dc? great work. looks good!

  • @lpgas1 : We're runnning the 9" ADC, series wound DC. Why? Coz that's what we had! I wouldn't mind trying Tritiums' kit in there though... maybe in the next car!

  • 490kw! Crikey. Totally awesome. But you'll need that because it's a lead sled aughglebarg! Still. Sponsorship is nice. hahaha

  • Woohoo!

  • Awesome!, Sorry guys, nwe to EV's so firgiv me. Whatis the formula for arriving at 490 KW ? Is that from the batteries, motor or? Again forgive but I'm dying to learn!

  • Wow, two parallel packs of 144v....more energy density than Thundersky's? I'm impressed. I have the same motor in my car but need that controller. Met the guys from EVnetics at Power of DC and that controller is the best on the market now in my humble opinion. Please show this thing moving!!!! Oh yeah, and fuses are a good idea!!!!!

  • very nice although not a fan of lead acid batteries. some power lithium is nicer and really actually cheaper because they live longer. and weigh less.

  • awesome project...... we waiting more videos 5*vid

  • I'm converting a truck to run on rechargeable batteries with an electric motor.

  • Looks good! are those just standard VW beetle front and rear end?

  • Four hundred... and... ninety... kilowatts.

    I'm drooling right now.
