The second of Fauré's thirteen barcarolles dates from 1885. In the key of G major, it shows greater compositional sophistication and harmonic adventurousness than its charming A minor predecessor. This recording by Albert Ferber (1911-87) was released in 1979.

  • Beautiful rending of a FavoritNoise, much gentler than some bracing french interpretations. The long phrase1.40>2.03:great sensititivy as is the middle part. However there are some damaging mis-readings starting with the bass at 0.26(and equivalent later),a truly dreadful blooper at 5.46,ruining Faurés harmonic journey, and the 2emphatic phrases at 6.00 are NOT identical! Nevertheless, worth hearing,as is most AlbertFerber.Lovely boats, but isn't a"Baracarolle"to be plo in military lodgings?

  • True, he plays a couple of wrong inversions and misses the diminished harmony at 6' 04". I can't say these departures from the score bother me all that much, though of course Fauré knew best. As for the 'baracarolle', perhaps I was thinking that the president of the US ought to have a part in the next Hollywood blockbuster!

  • @NOSEhow2LIV who told u it has anything to do with military? o.o just look it up on wikipedia, and u will kno why there's so many boats in the video...they r there for a reason ;)

  • @xFirebird925x Woops, I think NOSEhow2LIV's joke was lost on you!! I originally wrote 'baracarolle' in the heading by mistake instead of 'barcarolle', hence his joke - barracks being military quarters ... ! Of course my mistake is corrected so the comment does now seem odd!

  • @xFirebird925x ........oops! just noticed paulprocopolis' reply after i'd done my own. Best regards!

  • @xFirebird925x Ah, it's so nice to see someone with such an advanced sense of humor! Read more carefully! I should explain that the uploader originally mis-typed the title, now corrected. See also his own reply!

  • @paulprocopolis oh...lolz my bad xD

  • Amo questo pianista. Che Dio lo benedica

  • Thanks for sharing more Ferber on YouTube. I love all Ferber's Faure I have heard so far - his playing of the 6th Nocturne is perfection (in my opinion). Great picture of Faure, by the way!

  • Wish I could play the piano like that! Wish I could play the piano full stop. Did attempt. spent hours weeks practicing but was absolutely hopeless. Evidently it was to do with my hypocanthus. Mine won't allow me to remember sequences so tap dancing, typing and piano playing are out. Each time I see anything with a key board it is the first time. Never stopped me singing or dancing but oh I wanted to play the piano and sit down and play like this or even just sit down and play! Bravo!
