This simple quick bread is cheap to make and flexible. Add different ingredients depending on what you have on hand. This is a mi'kmaq fried version of a classic native recipe.

  • I'll try again. there's a GREAT bannock resource from the Kamloops offices of the BC Forest Service..Every time I tried to post the link, and my comments, I could not. I'll try this.. search the phrase bannock awareness on the web...the link will show. You may be able to still get hard copy, by contacting the office.

Cree supper from the shores of Lesser Slave Lake, Faust, AB: bannock, fried eggs, fried potatoes, butter, lots of strawberry jam. Great comfort food at -30.

  • @thepoint08 wow... thanks for sharing! yes, youtube doesn't allow us to post links in the comments. best way for that is by changing the way you write it, like... roughtimescooking DOT com :) thanks for sharing. much love.

  • @thepoint08 123 :)

  • Aww. I wanted to the see the finished result! Good video though :) I think I'll try this.

  • it doesn't look like my last response worked... maybe because I posted a link. Check out our demo episode on our channel... part 3 has the finished version of the bannock. it was tough cutting this for the web, as it was shot in 2002 for broadcast sales. we are now posting new recipes just for youtube as well, so they're a little more to the point. Thanks for your comment.

  • Here's another recipe for ya ... 1cup flour, 2 tbsp baking powder, large pinch salt, Grease ( bacon or lard) mix, add liquid (water or milk, whey tastes great) mix until slightly moist dough and cook until done ... make it a very thick pancake mix for beaver tails. add desired fruits and or nuts to either recipe. makes 1 medium size dough ball for 1 adult.

  • A very nice recipe which I enjoyed with my family this morning
