@USAmerican100 Convair already was well known to the defense industry, because of the highly successful B-24. However, the War Department rejected Convair's super bomber, the B-32, in favor of the Boeing B-29. Now the industry decided appeasement of an old ally with a conventional design as opposed the welcoming of a newcomer with an unorthodox design. This was Northrop's first bomber, while the B-36 was Convair's third bomber. The B-35 was no new, too risky with stability problems to booth.

Actually this is a production B-35A with full defensive armament, the XB-35 didn't have any guns on it.

Love the vid. HATE the music. The YB was way ahead of its time--as evidenced by the B-2 Spirit.
