  • During that season, Wood and Prior were both coming back from the DL and the media was reporting on every side session, soft toss of towels, their "simulated games", telling us all how great they were coming, and then in the games - not so good.

  • @jddrewcares It was all Karma, my friend. The Gonzalez botched double play ball was all Karma after Steve Bartman couldn't keep his hands in his pockets. Common sense tells you that if the Visitors are coming to bat, any foul ball questionable to land on the field, or withing range of the Fielder SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEFT ALONE!

Giving up a Foul Ball in exchange of your team winning the Pennant always tends to work out for everyone.

  • @Jiltedin2007

The Bartman play was bad, but the botched double play by Alex Gonzalez was a lot worse.

    And yeah, Dusty's terrible.

  • No mention of Joe Pepitone? How could you not?

  • @Skull10 No shit! And how about the following year after Steve Bartman went after a Foul Ball? Baker should have calmed down Mark Prior after the Bartman incident. But no, the Marlins exploded for 8 runs in the 8th Inning before the Cubs went up 3-0. Steve Bartman was a Stupid Jackass. But Dusty Baker is even far worse than that!

  • @Jiltedin2007 i remember that play well, and am never remiss to point out that if he can't even manage his own 3-year-old, how can he manage a Major League Baseball team?

  • @Skull10 Most likely. Even during his managing days in San Francisco (Remember those days), he was a Stupid Idiot! Giving the Game Ball to a Pitcher 5 outs away from winning a World Series? That was the "Wake up call" the Angels needed to win the 2002 World Series! And before that allowing your kid (As a Bat Boy) to be standing around Home Plate while Giants are trying to score? Good thing J.T. Snow was heads up and saved Dusty Baker's son from getting seriously injured.

  • @Jiltedin2007 If the Reds ownership/management have any sense (which they don't), they will fire him before next season.

  • @lemostat He sits players when they are hot and plays them when they are cold, refuses to have the same lineup two days in a row, leaves pitchers in too long and takes them out too early. The man is moron as a manager. Worst of all, he is a lazy, passive, "player's manager", meaning he lets players pretty much anything they want without instilling any discipline or a drive to win. He is a glorified baby sitter for grown men, nothing more.

  • @lemostat I never had any faith in him. I was sick to my stomach when I first learned he became the Reds manager. The only reason he won with the Giants and Cubs is because he had two of the very best players of their era (Bonds and Sosa) and some great pitching with those teams. Joey Votto, Scott Rolen and over-performing pitchers were the reasons they Reds won in spite of Rusty last year.
