In classic Daytona form, a great finish to the end of the Great American Race. On one side you have Dale Earnhardt, the veteran gunning for his sixth Winston Cup title. On the other there is Dale Jarrett, a strugling driver with only one victory under his belt. The two battle it out for two laps until Jarrett (with his father calling the race from the booth) take his first of three Daytona 500s

  • This is awesome; one of my all time favorites. Ned did an outstanding job here and made this finish so memorable. Any of us who are dads would have loved this chance to cheer on our son at their best.

  • I love Ned's call here.

  • "the dale and dale show and you know who i'm pullin for" one of nascar's most famous quotes

  • @Lights0ut1109 I'm sure Dale Sr was cheering just as loud in 2005 as Ned was in 1998!!!

  • "Look at Martha! Oh dear she's in tears!"

  • Ned would later apologized to Earnhardt for cheering for Jarrett in the press box. Earnhardt replied back "Don't you ever forget I'm a Dad too." Earnhardt was a good man R.I.P

  • Call your son home, Ned.

  • "It's the Dale 'n Dale show"

  • @MrRex41591 in terms of a full cup assault

  • This was truly a different time that is lost now. Notice how it's about the people and not all the crap that is thrown up on the screen today?

  • This loss wasn't as bad for Dale as 1990 but it was another setback none the less, man I hated tuning in for Daytona every year just to see him lose, I hated the commentators always picking him to win cause I thought it gave him bad luck. Thank goodness he finaly got his in 1998.

  • If Gordon had pushed Jarrett, Gordon could've won.
