Jawbreaker playing a super early and rare version of "Sleep" with Chris on vocals (!) live at Downtown Beirut in New York, NY on 11/4/1989. This is the earliest recorded performance of the band to surface, video or audio! I've kept all the between song banter and whatnot so that you can view the whole show if you'd like, although there are a lot of cuts in the footage thanks to the cameraman. Sleep dates back to at least mid-1989, and possibly even the Rise era, but wasn't recorded until October of 1991 for the Bivouac LP.

The lyrics were written by Chris, who also originally sang lead vocals in the song. All post-1989 versions of the song feature Blake on lead vocals.

Yeah, besides the vocal levels being low (probably the sound at the club) Chris seems to be singing REALLY quiet, his body language seems to indicate that he is really uncomfortable, that's probably why he stopped singing around this time. Although he does sing on some of the band's early demos, all of which were recorded before this show.

i like chris's voice and lyrics on world of shit...i had this show on VHS years ago and wish it was better quality...but its still rad since its like there earliest show on film i think
