Nokian Tyres is now fastest on ice both with an electric car and with a petrol-powered car! The new world record with E-RA (Electric RaceAbout) was set at 252.09 km/h on 17th of March 2012 on the ice of Lake Ukonjärvi in Inari, Finland. Petrol-powered ice driving record was already achieved by Nokian Tyres in March 2011.

Driver: Janne Laitinen, professional test driver for Nokian Tyres plc
Tyres: Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 (225/40R18)
Car: Electric RaceAbout, E-RA, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

Measured average speed: 252.09 km/h (156.64 mph)
Measured peak speed: 260.06 km/h (161.59 mph)

More information about how the record test was carried out, the E-RA sports car and the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7 studded tyres that provided the relentless grip and stable handling for this extreme speed can be found from Nokian Tyres' website.

Would have liked to hear the car sound for more than just a couple of seconds...

Actually rolling resistance is not any issue on flat ice, it's in same region than on tarmac.

This car's engine has much more power and torque than your S13's engine.

Not to mention that rolling resistance of this kind of ice is MUCH higher than one of tarmac.

I "removed" (or drove too close to those orange traffic barrels, both sides) on my old slow Camery, and that increased my top end by 6km/hr. I then, because I was curious, removed the wipers, covered the grill, and put gaffers tape over the seams on the front of the car and got another 5 to 6 kph for about 11-12km/hr more top. It's a Camery 2 liter manual, so that's only 192km/hr or 120mph. I would love to drive this electric with or without mirrors.

Ehhh? Argument from ignorance demonstrated once again. You know nothing about me yet claim to know I am a certain type of person and classify my under "people like you".

The tech will never be there, because people like you keep moving the target.

We were participating in Silvretta e-Auto in the Alps back in July. Now the car is under a major maintenance. We will hopefully come back with something later this year.
