@andresilvaluiz1 It seems like he said twenty didn't he?
-
Someone could explain what he said at 0:50? Adler read twenty or three page per hour? Thanks!

"When I am reading a Great Book, I never read faster than three pages an hour and sometimes slower than that. And It´s hard, hard work."
Because of that comment, I bought the How to Read a Book.

@travishenrichs I agree.

@themanhootch To be a fly on the wall during an Inklings "meeting"...Stuff of dreams. Interesting bit on McLnerny.
-
@NilDesperandum777 I think of him as a Christian humanist, which is the best version of that beast. Ralph McInerny is supposed to have led him to his conversion. Reminds me of Tolkien leading C.S. Lewis to Christ.

@themanhootch Adler at one time may have been a humanist and by his own confession a pagan, but long before his demise, was baptized Christian and remained so until his passing.

I am going to read "haves without have-nots"

lol! confusedmatthew, i think the caller is the one who was confused! i hope he has seen the error of his way.

LOL! Totally agree! Just what I was thinking, I mean you can just see him shudder inside at such a statement! I have some of his books....great works!
"I'm a great fan of Dr. Adler because I'm a speed reader teacher!"
That is the worst opening line he could have possibly come up with.

totally agree. you can't be a great fan and not follow his advice. slow reading is the best way to read (especially when it comes to the classics). and to promote reading through a classic in one week??? oh my! :(
