It has nothing to do with authority. Whether or not it's accurate, the idea of a police officer is to protect people. So yes, murdering a public servant - someone who serves the community - has more weight than the average citizen. I'm not saying that their life is worth more...only that the killer is less of a human being and deserves a harsher penalty. The same goes for people who kill children. Do you not agree?
