Who could ever forget seeing her live? For me it was in the Ritchie Coliseum at the University of Maryland. So packed and hot they opened the windows in the winter and people crowded the parking lot to hear her when they couldn't get inside. Lost track of all the encores. We didn't want to let her go and now we can't believe this beautiful women and pure voice is gone. Thanks for the video.

Wonderful.
One of the great, great artists of the baby-boom generation, a real pioneer and influence. Just ask Joni Mitchell and Todd Rundgren.
This is Laura at the twilight of her career. Her voice sounded better than ever. My friend interviewed her about this time, and she was so sweet and open. She was not filthy rich by this time, but even so refused to license her music to commercials.
God bless her. I'll bet she teaching the angels some great harmonies.

Always loved Laura's music. So many big, popular hits written by such a shy, demure out of the spotlight kind of woman. Always liked her use of major and minor 7ths. I can hear some of Laura's influence in Todd Rundgren's music. Songs like Can we still be Friends, We Gotta Get You a Woman. I always felt her music was a mix of early soul & Bacharach. She should have been at Woodstock. Had she done Woodstock, she'd have been a household name like, Joni or Janis. Maybe that's what she didn't want.

@Grisostomo06 The words of course aren't a dirge but the melody is so somber and sad.

いつ観ても、聴いても、神々しい!~女神様・ローラ・ニーロ様~
シンプルでみずみずしい唄声~~涙の"OH YEAR MAYBE BABY" -
According to Wikipedia's entry on Laura Nyro, Todd Rundgren has acknowledged her influence on his music. He became life-long friends with her after meeting her in 1968 and wrote a song about her called "Baby Let's Swing" which mentions her by name.

Well, that's your opinion. In my opinion Laura Nyro was a genius who could do no wrong. Anyway slowing down the tempo didn't turn this into a dirge( a song of mourning or lament as would be played at a funeral). One wouldn't sing "Oh baby, baby, I love you" at a funeral.
I'm glad we have this video here on Youtube. Laura looked and sounded great.

Her death had nothing to do with weight it was Ovarian cancer.
Her mother died the same age as she 49 from the same disease.

Glad I logged on tonight. You have pure gold here.
I believe that this concert was cut short by a thunderstorm? Do you have any more of it?

You are absolutely right, SayerWV. It WAS cut short by a thunderstorm. And yes I have the whole show, but I have to reload the clips to the pc and then upload to here. Someday. Someday.

Thank you for posting this. I am so glad some of this is still available. Behind Laura is (someone confirm this) Diane Garisto, who did such an AMAZING job interpreting Laura's music at the tribute concert in Ithaca in April, 07. I wish this show could tour for all of Laura's loyal fans. It was very beautifully done. I had not seen this one and am so happy someone was able to share it. God bless her.
