By request from gerryged86, this one's 4 U Jerry! Did you know that actually their group name was the Pendletons. When they decided to release Surfin' they then changed their name to the Beach Boys.

  • I actually like this version better than the popular version. It's more "dreamy" sounding.

  • @Clevelandbrowns58 Thanks for clarifying this for me. I have seen Brian Wilson state in a video interview, "this (Surfer Girl) was the one that started it all". So, for the record, this was the first "surf tune" he wrote, but Surfin' was the first record they cut. Frankly, Surfin' is almost a retarded tune, but it was more in the old doo-wop rock style, as opposed to the smoother Brian Wilson tunes and arrangements which followed and established their success.

  • @kitthevideoman Brian first wrote Surfer Girl, but the Beachboys first record was surfin'.

    Greetings from Switzerland, Dave

  • If someone can tell what studio this was cut and also under what recording company, I'd appreciate it. Sounds like an echo chamber or reverb was used. Also, which tune was written first, Surfer Girl or Surfin'?

  • @JediTomkat I know the feeling. Brian's vocals were unmatched.

  • I freeze in time when I hear this early golden take

  • Actually they didn't know their name was changed until the record came out. The record company put that name on it. I guess the rest is history! For such a screwed up band they sure left a lasting impression and inspired alot of musicians. As far as Im concerned there's not a band around today or back then that'll ever match the creativity and evolution of song writing and sounds.

  • Their original name was "The Pendletones", not the "Pendletons".
