Old Town Temecula officer involved shooting of Sean Vilan at the Bank of Mexican Food KZSW

KZSW Chief Photographer Chad Buchanan interviews Kevin Kitley, best friend of Sean Vilan, who was fatally shot by off duty Costa Mesa Police officer Scott Dibble outside of the Bank of Mexican food bar after the Temecula Rod Run in 2008. Also shot was Taylor Willis. All of the VO at the scene is stringer footage by Joe Faneselle; the interview and vigil footage was shot by Chad Buchanan. I still have all of the raw video that the station had on this story. I personally shot 90-percent of what the station had except the actual on-scene at the time of the incident footage. Two freelance guys shot that video, which I also have.

@Boudinot77 This tragedy would have been avoided if the cop wasn't attacked at all. Yeah, he "ass-aulted" the woman when he slapped her butt, but then he mistook her behind for his sister's. He apologized and went outside to get some air, presumably because he was ashamed. That's when he was attacked from behind with a chair which was completely unnecessary, Vilian brought his death upon himself. Many more witnesses corroborate the cop's actions than Sean's. Sorry, but facts are facts.

@johnconer70 Did you know that the cop assaulted a women in Shaun's party that night after he'd been getting drunk all day in the Temecula Vineyards. The cop got away with murder because he is a cop. The coroner is a witness to the fact Shaun was shot in the back which is what blew out his heart. Maybe you should think before you act, I'm sure this has been a problem for you your whole life. Every year since Shaun was murdered hundreds of law abiding, loving people still hold a vigil.

Fuck that idiot. He deserved to get shot. And I hate cops. But bottom line is he was a drunk typical idiot bro type from Temecula that attacked an off duty cop for no reason who just wanted to have a couple drinks and have a good time like the idiot he shot. Tragic, but then they should never have blindsided the man. If he hadn't been armed that day, it might have been the cop who was killed and not the other way around. I think the lesson learned here is to not be a drunken asshole who thinks they can just assault anyone they like. The Vilan family lied and tried to play the victim. If he was a "changed man" then why did he violate his parole by attacking someone? He was a violent man and ironically died violently, karma's a bitch.
