Fixing Kahler's Bending & Tuning Problem (FINALLY!) - Part 2 of 3

With this 3-part series, I discuss a solution that substantially minimizes Kahler's bending and tuning problem. I first talked about the bending problem on my Kahler vs. Floyd Rose video series. With Kahlers common behavior, the player needs to dive with the tremolo bar to bring the string(s) back to pitch after a bend. There are ways to ineffectively cheat (or hide the problem), which I also discuss with this video series.

My goal is to make Kahlers stay in tune with bends + dive bombs + pullups. My solution involves four steps:

1. Decreasing the spring tension to tilt the cam forward
2. Bending the string windings by 75 degrees and applying a thick layer of solder
3. Using a Kahler model with a flat cam such as the latest 2300
4. Applying a bit of Chapstick between the strings and the cam

I compared my setup and stringing procedures (and results) to the setup and stringing procedures suggested by Kahler.

I also discuss various one-time steps to make Kahlers in tune. Topics involve locking nut, saddles, string risers, allen screws, roller lubrication, spring setup, Hybrid vs. 2300, etc.

On the xtrem there is a string tension adjustment next to the bar and i fiddled around with that now tuning is fine on bends!

i have relatively high rollers not to high but they are lubricated The high E is soldered and i like the put a blob of glue from my glue gun on the balls of the string! tighten the fine tuners up tune it up and i'm just in love with it!

I just posted a few annotations on top of this video. Lithium grease works even better than Chapstick. Now I'm successfully able to keep my Hybrid (cylindrical cam) in tune with bends. Watch this video again. Spread the word!

Oh yes, all the other steps are the same. But with the cylindrical cams, the solder needs to extend 1/2 inch.

@timothycoyle You do realise that you would be spending an aweful amount of money for that lol.... i was about to discard this wonderful solution out of shear lazyness... but c'mon think bout it.... I restring when one snaps...if not then i maintain my strings and theyre fine up to about 6 months then i get tuning issues....so this solution is a cool affordable, untimeconsuming way to deal with this problem think..

Why do they let the product go out to use with such a massive fault anyway> it's stupid!

Couldnt you take the cam to a machine shop and have them machine little slices of metal off of the cam where the friction is being created and insert a slice of material like that used in graphtech nuts or another slippery substance called derlin(Slipstone) to reduce friction and improve tuning?

which hole is the string tension adjuster? also do u use spray lithium grease? are there any already soldered strings?

Will the Kahler 2315 work cuz I think it has a flat cam just making sure
