There is no"You're not supposed to"when it comes to string choice.I will never put on flatwound strings on any bass.I hate that dull.murky,old word bass sound.You just have to make sure you have a very hard fingerboard.
They are not glued down. it can get into a different position when you change strings, so it's best to mark it, or adjust/inntonate the strings each time. I've got some TI Flats on the one I still have (not the one in this video), and I don't know if I'll ever change them.
Are they glued or floating?One brave soul had a wishbass with an excessively tall bridge and decided to remove it and sand it down to a reasonable height.
By the way,your sound is perfectly allright.Just lower your bridge,if you can.Then you'll have the "Byow"factor.Oh,and make sure your nut is properly notched deep enough.
