In other words, after the 1960s, it just seemed like the South couldn't do anything right politically. It was the end of an era and they took a lot of hits, more so than any other part of the country, for what had been a way of life in the US for nearly 100 years (segregation). The South had segregation by law, but many Northernerns practiced it as well. Yankees never really felt that black people were American anyway.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has been around for too long to have anybody talk about their use of the flag. In case some people don't remember, the American South was basically blamed for ALL RACISM in the US since the 1960s, even though other parts of the country were doing it too. This song was to lift the pride of good Southerners who felt they got fucked over with the Civil Rights movement, by supporting Governor Wallace and then voting for Nixon. All three bad bets. It takes a toll on people.

I think you guys should lay off, herogod only asked a question, and if a band had the Swastika at the back of the stage would it be received as well? also learn to spell if you want to be taken seriously.
