@m3rovin thanks I understand what your saying, eg softer metals v hard mass also fps of a high powered rifle vs bb gun! And how liquids react to fast or slow impacts, i would of worked it out sooner or later, it's an interesting science! Have you seen the video of different nato rounds being fired through ballistics gel & glass and deforming against solid plate in super slow motion?

@SuperStormtroop water also becomes more resistant to a body moving through it the more the velocity of the body increases, at the velocity the Barrett's projectile is moving at, the water is basically like a solid object, the projectile deforms so much that is breaks up into its constituent pieces, but your idea though is correct, it is just not applicable in this case.

@SuperStormtroop You have to put it into perspective here,the muzzle velocity of the Barrett M82 is around 2800 feet per second, the projectile is much larger and is more susceptible to deformation upon impact with a hard surface i.e water at 2800 feet per second, than say the tiny copper ball, which is much more resistant to deformation not only because it is made of a harder metal than the lead slug of the M82 but it also travels much slower...

@SuperStormtroop wrong 4.5 mm bbs (1.77 cal same thing) are made of copper or nickle plated steel not lead and copper the fps on this gun is 541 ft/sec give or take a few fps i have shot 800-900 fps shots into water at 1.5 ft it wont do a thing to the bb with my gun when it hits the water this gun with a lower fps wont even be close to doing that you would need to fire the bb over 1400fps and it might not break up even then (mythbusters mess up any myth on guns,cars,explosions,physics)

Powerful bb gun but water probably shatters the bb's! On mythbusters the fired a .50 cal Barrett rifle into a pool and it shattered the bullet!
