This is MUCH easier to tackle in the arcade than a controller with the gas and brake on the SAME analog stick. I need a new controller. While the Beginner and Advanced courses can be done without the releasing the gas or hitting the brakes, the Expert Course demands otherwise, and it's pretty imperative to powerslide through several of the turns with care to how much gas is applied, even if it means none at all.

Since the original upload, I've been polishing my skills in the actual arcade, now that I've moved somewhere where I can play arcade Daytona nearby, and yeah, it took me quite a while to get the pattern down, and was pretty difficult to emulate on a controller which is the same design as a PS1 dual analog controller, thankfully with a different D-Pad.

So for the sake of completion and a sense of accomplishment for conquering this track both on the emulator and the arcade (and not because of the wishes of demanding jackasses who think people on YouTube are there to serve them) here's the Expert course, otherwise known as Sea Side Street Galaxy.

It's amazing so to say. I first caught wind of this game when I got my Sega Saturn and the 3 free games offer way back in '96, and even though I didn't know how to truly play it, I had fun with it. Yeah, I've played a boatload (not necessarily conquered, or came close to finishing for that matter) of Sega racers between then - Sega Rally 1 & 2, Daytona 2 BoTE and PE, Scud Race, Motor Raid, Star Wars Episode I, every version of OutRun2... Crazy Taxi and Emergency Call Ambulance if they count - but something stuck about this one. Only several years later did I really understand what it took to conquer the tracks in the arcade, and finally managed to do so. It's a strange sense of accomplishment, I guess knowing that out of hundreds of people I see play this game at Dave & Busters, most of them will never come close. A timeless experience? It's not something you can bring up to your friends in class or at work and expect them to understand.

Aside from that, now I want to push my skills further with the game's sequels. But where am I doing to find a Scud Race and Daytona 2 machine nowadays...? =(

For consistency purposes, I used Nebula Model 2 Emulator 0.9 even though 1.0 is out.

  • Nice drift work... had a chance to try this course out... didn't do so well... when drifting, what gear should i shift to to perform a good drift...

  • @LK600 Drifting is more than just gear shifting, especially with the expert course. It's imperative that you watch your pressure on the gas. As I indicated in the video, with most of the drifts I had to release the gas completely. Look at the video and focus on which gears I shifted to and how fast I was going.

  • I have this game for XBOX 360(XBOX Live Arcade)

  • You the best!!

  • @substancej Blue Blue skiiiessss!

  • Great driving. This course was the death of me on Saturn.

  • This is one of those perennial games of the 90's that defined the quality of the arcade you were in. The roar of the engines next to Virtua Fighter, Primal Rage, Street Fighter II & X Men, turds like Time Killers & Revolution X, the musty smell of the arcade, pinball machine noise, the thrill of feeding bills into the token machines and loading your pockets with them...you pwn this game better than ANYONE I ever saw play it. Respeck.

  • Dude, those were some nice tips! I'm always satisfied hearing from a pro like you, but seriously: you talk about every corner as it if was your work!

  • Like a boss! Damn!

  • Damn, I know Daytona USA was ahead of it's time with the graphics, but I didn't remember them being THIS good! Anyway, you god some mad skillz, partner. I could never survive the Expert track even with an Automatic transmission; that should tell that I suck.
