Indeed. Youtube chose to block this way of doing it, but later on adding native support for HD videos. Why they decided to block this method is beyond me, but atleast it's simpler than ever to upload (and view) HD content on youtube. Props to the YT crew for that.

This was in 720p until YouTube made their own HD feature. They downscaled it, probably as a mild punishment for abusing a bug.

Well that's pretty dumb. This is a video about how to upload HD videos to yutube, yet the quality of this is so bad, even in full-screen it's difficult to read the small print. It would have mede more sense to do it in high definition.
