Jimmy Carter's Middle East tour - 18 April 08

He's been villified at home for meeting the leader of a group, the US calls a terrorist organisation.




However, Jimmy Carter, the former US President, sat down for talks with the political leader of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal in Damascus.

Carter, who won a Nobel Prize for negotiating peace between Israel and Egypt, holds no official power, but he is an influential voice.

Al Jazeera's Clayton Swisher reports from Damascus.

Jimmy Carter is one of this countries greatest citizens and has done more good for humanity that most by dedicating his live to peace. Since leaving office he has never slowed down in his quest to help the less fortunate of this world. I didn't see any one from the Bush administration hammering nails in New Orleans but Jimmy was there.Those of you on this board who run him down and call him your childish names should be ashamed. God is holding a special seat for this honorable and dedicated man.

President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

Jimmy Carter needs to keep his ass at home! he started the mess with Iran and you see what it got us. the guy is a joke. he was a failure as President, high taxs, gas, food, inflation, etc.
