  • Hi J,i have a question,as you said about the pen drive to do everything by the pen drive, for me to download some sound the yamaha has to put in MotifXS,can i save to pen drive and then load without a Pc?,only using the drive device behind the Motif?!,beacuse im thinking to buy the 1GB dimm for my Motif :/ .another question,do i need connect my motif onto pc to Motif to make all changes or only save all the files that i need to pen drive will solve this little problem?..thanks so much.Best regard

  • @coisasdepimpolho In short-the answer is yes. You would be able to load presets, sounds, even kits to a USB drive then Load them to the Motif from the drive via the USB port on your Motif. You can either pull kits from sites like Motifator or use the editor software that came with your Motif. You only need the dimm if you plan to sample on the Motif. Be aware though, some kits include samples and you would need dimm to hold those samples. Hope this helps.

  • Is there an easy way to back up all the user banks on the Motif? Do I have to save them all one-by-one? Can I do a one-procedure back up and save all the sounds on the user banks all at once?

  • @rmazali You can do a save file backs up everything that is currently on the Motif. the key is to remember to load the file every time you power it back up so any samples you create or import are loaded. If you don't restore the file, all your songs, patterns, etc will still be there, but any sample based sounds won't be there. Instead they will be substituted with the grand piano sound until you reload them. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

  • Hey J rance how ya doin ?

i just got a question for ya if i may,

i got a fantom and a motif xs7, so if i update my operating system for the motif will i then be able to use the usb drive not only to offload samples, what about samples from the fantom, could i upload them on my motif using a usb drive ?

  • In theory it should...if you are able to convert the samples to wave files. I'm sure the Fantom has a resample function. Its been a minute since I looked at the Fantom manual, but you should be able to if you are using the Fantom X.

The next thing is that you will still need memory in your Motif so that you'll have the RAM to store the wave samples for your projects. If you don't have any memory installed, none of this will matter as you still need to use the integrated sampling function.
