Double stroke 1/16 triplets with accents on 1/4 note

Got a camera that only takes 30 secs of video. So set it up to record some drum practice ideas I had. Also it is recommended to record yourself drumming.

This is a 1/4 note pulse through 16ths triplets in doubles exercise. Starting with left hand with 1/4 notes at roughly 103 bpm. The trick was to try to get the downstroke accents to be followed by more of a tap stroke in the diddle.

The pattern is Llrrll Rrllrr Llrrll Rrllrr. (Counted 1ana1ana2ana2ana3ana3ana4ana4ana). Mixture of finger bounces & wrist strokes.

After seeing this I can tell that my left hand doesn't work as my right does. The grips are slightly different. Also the stroke heights are not matching. And I'm not really relaxing enough. The double strokes (diddles) sound very forced and uneven.

In fact it's pretty poor. Any advice?

since you ask for advice

-try to stay relaxed in your upper body, it shouldn´t move that much. Therefore don´t be afraid to make more use of your forearms.

-Check the pressure in your fulcrum, looks like it could use a bit more

-strong hand teaches weak one

-hand with accent to come should strike out more before the actual accent, this should look nice and fluent

-practice @70bpm till satisfied

Anyway. Your kind of all over on the pad. Draw 2 dots on the pad and try to hit them most of the time

Yeah just get a mirror and watch your technique while you play, make sure both hands match. Also check to make sure the butts of your sticks line up the same way in both hands (for example both lined up under the muscle under your pinkie, where the bone sticks out) Also practice playing double strokes on pillows, get your finger dexterity stronger in both hands
