Snow in Houston! Dec 10, 2008

We had a snow flurry in Houston today! It doesn't snow very often here- its generally too warm. usually it just sleets or hails a bit or we have a freeze after a rain- but not usually snow in this part of Texas. I did snow on Christmas Eve in 2004? I think- and it only snowed in December maybe 10 years before that. The snow usually lasts for only a day or two- so many 'Houstonians' consider it a novelty and thats why we get so excited and break out the cameras. Ive had people get excited over a brief drizzle of sleet and I have to explain the difference between sleet, snow, and hail to them. Although most people in Houston don't like the cold, snow is more fun than hail. I've seen marble sized hailstones with the occasional 'golf ball' -those suckers can damage your car! I took some video of people playing with snow on the loading dock at my building.

It snowed from about 2pm till about 8pm or so. It piled up, but it was gone the next morning. It could be 70'F in a few days! It snowed eariler in the month than it did that last time. - so there's a chance for more if we get the same conditions. Everyone loved it- they were out playing in it and taking pictures. We wouldn't be so happy if we had to deal with driving in it and shoveling it daily. Its a curiosity here.

hey we got snow here on the 12 it was also gone the next morning not enough to stick to ground. but it was cold enough the next morning
