Normal muscle use results in microscopic tears to the muscle tissue, which triggers a process of regeneration―not the production of new muscle fibers to replace the old,but the patching up of existing fibers. In investigating how muscles repair themselves in this way, reserchers have identified a pro-growth factor they call insulin-like growth factor 1,and an anti-growth factor, myostain, which respectively encourage and discourage muscle cell division and protein production.

@nadandoenloprofundo No, sperm cells aren't altered

@CelestialKindred ironically the germans are also the first ones to have innovated a reliable method of detecting gene doping with a simple blood test. Here is the article. Im not arguing against your point your probably right, but you may also find this interesting. medicalnewstoday . com/articles/199886.php

People thought steroids in sports was huge just give gene doping a few years...
I think eventually we will be designing ourselves and our kids.
-
@nadandoenloprofundo No they won't as gene therapies currently only target somatic cells (body cells) and not germ cells (sperm and egg cells), so they will not be passed onto their children.

usain is natural because if they decide to gene dope somone he certainly wont be jamaican.

I am sure we will find a way of perfecting it, it is only a matter of time.
Besides I wouldn't believe everything the government dishes out.

While the benefits are tempting, the price can be fatal. Furthermore, where's the place for Pierre de Coubertin's words, that it's the competition that matters the most?
