I was riding my Goldwing motorcycle near Lincolnton Georgia when I came across bison and Texas longhorns. The bison and longhorns were together near the corner of the field where I stopped, but by the time I got my motorcycle gear off and camera out, they had wandered to the other side of the field. One bison kept coming back close to me putting on displays showing me how big and fast he was and how much dirt he could kick up and wallow in. I remember Steve Erwin use to always say to the aggressive animals he encountered, "You're all right," so I tried that but I must not have gotten the Aussie accent quite right because it didn't calm him down much, time to back off.
It was great to see the bison running around the field. It really looked like they were enjoying themselves. For such big animals, it looked like it didn't really take much effort for them to gallop around the field.
Could you just imagine thousands of these animals running across the plains before the western expansion crowded them out?
