Tom Teasley at Kimi Ora Special Needs School in Lower Hutt New Zealand.
Tom has a unique worldview of drumming and percussion. He has been a soloist and composition collaborator with the National Symphony and Artist-In-Residence at The Kennedy Center For Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Tom has been a three-time recipient of the Fulbright-Hayes Award for historic performances in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jerusalem and most recently as a Cultural Envoy to Iraq. In these regions he collaborated with master indigenous drummers, participated in religious ceremonies during Ramadan, set Iraqi poetry to his original music and performed with classical oud players and members of the Iraqi Symphony. Tom infuses his love of American Jazz, funk and music technology with ancient musical traditions from around the world. He has recently been working on composition and performing for theatrical performances that have garnered him the prestigious Helen Hayes Award for Sound Design in 2010 and 2011. The most recent of which is the Indian epic The Ramayana, which has led to an interest of his music in India.
