@Zuzannaq Thank you for the information about Byzantium, I had forgotten. Yes Szymanowski was a genius to combine two dfferent musical styles. I will read the libretto later. This opera is one of my top three, Doktor Faust by Bunsoni and Turrandot by Puccini All written about the same time I believe.

Music is supposed to sound a bit orthodox - the action originally takes place in Byzantium.

Love this opera even in German subtitles. Since I do not understand POlish or German Imust rely on what is seen. FRom act 1 it seems King Roger had a homosexual affair. Always thought the first act was religious with the writing (music) sounds Orthodox Christian. Alexand D'Maddalena
