DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince - Nightmare On My Street (1988)

The second single released from the breakout LP He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper, "Nightmare On My Street" glowed its way to #15 pop. The song was not approved by New Line Cinema to appear on the motion picture soundtrack of Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Master and was tagged on early pressings of the album with a disclaimer stating that it was not licensed with the film. The original six-minute version is only available on the vinyl & cassette versions of the LP.

Produced by Will Smith, Jeff Townes and Pete Harris.

BACK TO BLACK is a video series celebrating the spirit and legacy of vinyl with audio of maxi-singles, essential records, exclusive mixes and rare grooves. Presented by HiFiMagazine.

  • I love the way it sounds. I remember when I had this back in the day. The crackling means its authentic, you just dont get that anymore :) (I'm only 28 btw!!)

  • @getoffmeluckycharms I remember when I first heard this...without all the snap, crackle and pops. Bad usage will do that to a record...but that's usually a record that got LOTS of love. Glad to know you still appreciate vinyl. Makes me smile.

  • Yeah, my sister smoked that vinyl OUT. Even after cleaning the record, it still sizzled. LOL

  • Love it!!!

  • It sounds funny. Freddy's rapping.

  • nothing like the 80s movies and now they try and recreative this classic movie and it flopped big time. Movies today arent as good as the classics during the 80s and early 90s.

  • i love elm street

  • @getoffmeluckycharms i agree. if you grew up with albums, that sound is so nostalgic. it brings back memories for me. and i'm 36.

  • use a little Ivory soap with a damp soft cloth go with the groove Should take a few of the crackle and pops out. Its an old DJ trick.

  • Dude, tape a few coins to the top of the arm, weight the needle a bit will remove some of these crackles, LOL!

  • This song is still the jam! Thanks for posting the entire thing.

  • this song sounds even more creepy on record
