@nmfarlow Sam Bush. 'Nuff said.
-
thile is a god on the mandolin, wish i could play half as good
-
Thile is the Frodo of the mandolin. The dude is a straight up Tolkien character with those skills.
-
aint that Tony Rice joining in from the corner, wearing glasses ? looks and sounds much like him -sounds good !
-
Holy Shit, Vassar! You and Thile standing side by side is a site fot the ages. Just two incredible players. No Grisman ego. Just straight musiciansip. I'll throw in some Sammy bush for ya for good measure. Tony Rice isn't any slouch either.
-
This is ALMOST too good to watch!!
I miss Vassar.......
-
I believe that is Pete Wernick on banjo!
-
I was there, later when Chris , Sam , and David, are on stage alone. they play something like rattlesnake then Chris drops his pick during the song. Hangs his head after the song and walks off stage. Do you remeber that?
-
is that Bill emerson on banjo?
-
its' not you. Chris Thile slays dragons.
Is it just me or does Chris Thile smoke every single mandolin player on that stage?

nmfarlow is right in saying that Chris Thile is a cut above the other mandolinists in terms of effortless technique and the flow of original ideas. And it's a pleasure to hear him play in a traditional bluegrass context, pushing the envelope but never losing touch with the spirit of the genre. Oh yeah, the tune is "Daybreak in Dixie."
