In promos before Enterprise's television premiere, music by US band The Calling was used, and for a time it was said that their hit, Wherever You Will Go, would grace the opening credits. However when screened, Russell Watson's cover of Faith of the Heart was heard instead. That remained so for the show's entire run, with a remix covering the final two seasons.

This video shows what the opening credits would have been like with The Calling's theme. Curiously, many scene transitions are in time with the beat and even some visuals correspond with the lyrics ("way up high or down low" being most notable). I think it works quite well.

  • This song doesn't describe the feel of Enterprise, faith of the heart does. Enterprice is where it all began, before Kirk, it's the whole human emotional feeling they are giving that, we're going off into the unknown, almost heart warming how well it fits as they go through out "Flight" timeline in sync with faith of heart.

    Period.

  • Holy shit, that was even better than a covered Rod Stewart song.

The place where I grew up is incredibly strategically important militarily. Due to 9/11, Enterprise was delayed for almost a month because UPN was being used as a local access network. For me, Enterprise premiered the same night as Smallville.

Wherever You Will Go was used in the second episode of Smallville, called "Metamorphosis."

  • @mathewmason"Enterprice"... please, don't.

  • @TheStarTreker Smallville was terrible after the third season and wasn't worth watching.

Also, CBS being involved in Star Trek is a terrible idea.

I was very sadden that Star Trek Enterprise was cancelled in 2005 but I was glad that Smallville continued until this year, May 13th. It would have been nice if Enterprise lasted as long as Smallville did. Now both shows including all the Stargates ended. Now there is no good sci-fi show left except there is Chuck on NBC which I absolutely love and Scott Bakula even guest starred as Chuck's father in his 2nd and 3rd season. I hope CBS brings back Star Trek on TV at some point.

Lol. I used to watch both shows regularly every week. Well the first 2 years of Enterprise I watched it on the WB on every Saturday night. At the time I didn't have a local UPN channel just the WB. I remember they used to come on the same night and time. I recorded Smallville and watched Star Trek Enterprise when I eventually gotten a local UPN. I even used to watch Stargate SG-1, Star Trek Voyager and the reruns of Star Trek The Next Generation on my local WB, this was back in 1997.

  • Doesn't really fit the theme of the show really.

  • Not only do I like the original Season 1 and 2 opening, I like this one too. The drums added to seasons 3 and 4 killed the theme for me.

  • man this is sooo much better than that awful terrible faith of the heart.. The words even make more sense... either way, they should have just gone with the instrumental like all the other series. Even flippin voyager had a decent intro song for damn sakes

  • Okay, so there can be a worse theme than "Faith of the Heart"
