In an ideal world it would be practical to concentrate on the accuracy of altitude and bank angle holding during this manoeuvre, and steep turns would be used to judge a pilot's co-ordination and handling abilities. But seemingly unbeknown to the people that create the syllabus and the tolerances is the reality that the steep turn's most relevant application is head-on collision avoidance. If the guy can hold the correct bank and altitude approximately whilst remaining 'eyes out' he should pass.
