The body will associate certain sensations with certain situations. For example, if somebody experiences a house/school fire which activates smoke alarms or a fire siren, they'll most likely link the sounds with the feeling of panic or loss. If somebody experiences an EAS warning of a tornado or other warning, they'll feel scared, and whenever they hear the digital header noise, they'll link the sound to the feeling of fear. Also, it does sound pretty intimidating :P

they got sued were i live for this. Apparently the local news channels said that it fucked up there ways of getting money and got rid of it and they now interupt the channel with the weather man who usually gets over excited yelling at you to take cover and what not.

@thecleffa I think it's a natural response, and that most people associate the noise with disaster. I get so freaked out because I was 5 the first time I heard it.

because sometimes at like 3am or 4am they put it on VERY LOUD and it scares people it even scares me O.o
