Here is a new version of Marius Petipa & Riccardo Drigo's "Le Talisman" by the choreographer Paul Chalmers, performed by the Rome Opera Ballet. Staged in honor of the 150th anniversary of Riccardo Drigo's birth at the Teatro Verdi di Padova in Padua, Italy, the city where Drigo was born in 1846. This performance of the premiere was taped on March 16, 1997.

See clip 1/8 for extensive notes, cast list, etc.

**Résumé of dances -
1. Scène of the Bazaar
2. Dance for 5 Indian women (Petipa staged this as a "Pas Katchak", a character number mimicking classical Indian dance)
3. Danse sous le voile
4. Scène

**Libretto for this clip -
Act II: The gardens of King Akdar's palace in Dehli (conclusion) -
Fanfares announcing King Akdar are heard. "Come!" cries the King, "the priests are waiting to perform the wedding ceremony." Noureddin, unable to forget Niriti, confesses that he loves another & must refuse the Princess Damayanti's hand. The enraged King draws his sword; his guards follows suit. At that moment Noureddin is protected from harm by the Goddesses.

Act III (scene 1): A bazaar on the banks of the river Ganges -
It is market-day & the bazaar is crowded with many people belonging to the numerous races of India. Noureddin enters with the Talisman glittering from his breast. One of the slave-dealers orders for dancing to begin.

Enter Vayou & Niriti, who are disguised as a Brahim & his slave. Vayou presents Niriti to the crowd wrapped in a long veil. Recognising Noureddin, they decide to steal the Talisman, but Noureddin recognises Niriti & pursues her.

**Notes -
In Petipa's production, the second act featured a spectacular finale where Vayou caused the ground to split open in his effort to protect Noureddin from the King's wrath & save Niriti's Talisman. In the Italian production, the Goddesses merely run in between the young Maharajah & angry King.
