Opposition leader Silvio Berlusconi has urged Italy to close its borders to Romanian

workers and a conservative ally has called for the expulsion of tens of thousands of Romanian immigrants after a waive of alleged crimes by Romanian citizens.

Berlusconi told La Stampa newspaper that Italy should enact a moratorium against Romanian workers after the savage beating of an Italian naval commander's wife.
