In order to release stress, we must understand that stress is not something outside of ourselves. Stress is our reaction to change. That is why two people can go through exactly the same event but have completely different stress responses.

This is a very important point, because if stress is our reaction to an event, we can work on changing it; whereas if stress were a random event outside of ourselves, we would be at its mercy. The Health Enhancement approach is all about using effective tools at everyone's disposal to empower ourselves.

The major influences in developing the Health Enhancement approach to releasing stress have been the teachings of Integral Yoga from Swami Sivananda and Swami Satchidananda complemented by wisdom passed on from Shunryu Suzuki, Swami Satyananda, Thich Nhat Hanh, Swami Rama.

In addition the research and work of such pioneers as Dr. Candace Pert, Dr. Herbert Benson, Dr. Dean Ornish, Ann Wigmore, Dr. Joan Borysenko, Dr. Bruce Lipton, Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn,, Dr George Solomon, Dr. David Spiegel, Dr. John Sarno, Dr. Patch Adams, Rob Brezsny, Ram Dass, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Norman Cousins, Dr, Larry Dossey, Hans Selye, Victor Frankl, Dr. Bernie Siegel and Daniel Goleman. Their books are widely availbable.
