Home made Matchlock Musket

This is a hand made .75 caliber smoothbore Matchlock Musket shown from start to the first firing, taking one month to make.
The Barrel is a 1710 Dutch Flintlock barrel by Colerain and was purchased from Track of the Wolf.

is that a stainless steel barrel??? .....how do you clean the barrel??............... how well would a brass or a bronze barrel perform?

@freeboy530 Nope, it is a regular mild steel barrel which is quite soft, this is the correct material for a barrel as it is slightly elastic compared to a harder steel like tool steel or stainless steel.

Brass and Bronze are actually used for barrels as well, the materials are just more expensive so you usually only see them in short barrels like on an Arkebus or a Pistol, and they need to be slightly thicker than a steel barrel so a Brass or Bronze barrel on a musket would be very heavy.

@ANZACS100 People also build cars, boats and airplanes. A car can have a control malfunction and crash, boats can be sunk and leave you to drown, airplanes can fail for any number of reasons and crash, none of this makes building them any less worthwhile to do.
