Dr. Yancy Orchard demonstrates a small variety of concepts used in Jiulong Baguazhang to neutralize kicking attacks.

This demonstration was at the 2008 Saskatoon Traditional Martial Arts Friendship Demonstration hosted by Shizi Orchard's Wu Guan, Saskatoon Traditional Kung Fu. In attendance were practitioners from several martial schools: Saskatoon Aikikai, Commando Krav Maga Saskatoon, Pekiti Tirsia Saskatoon, Saskatoon Flying Tiger Hapkido Studio, Three Treasures Yang Taiji Saskatoon, and Saskatoon Parkour.

Dr. Yancy Orchard has trained in Dr. John Painter's Jiulong Baguazhang for 15 years and has taught this rare art at the Xin Fu Gompa in Saskatoon, SK for more than 5 years.

If you are interested in studying Jiulong Baguazhang, please contact Dr. Orchard at SaskatoonBagua@sasktel.net or visit our website at www.NineDragonBaguazhang.ca

  • Please slow it down, and point out individual moves!!! This is incredible...thank you for posting!

  • @cybervore,

Thanks for the response! The first move is a redirection of the kick with a Yang Lake Palm followed by a Yang Mountain Palm to the face. The second move is merely a Heaven Palm with a Wedge, a Circle Under, and a Circle Down. The third movement is a Yin Mountain Palm with Circling the Circle Outside footwork. The fourth adapts Hawk Catches Sparrow to legwork and embraces his head with a Yin Thunder Palm. The fifth uses a Pendulum Step with Thunder Palm.

  • @cybervore,

The last uses Taiji Earth Palm to neutralize the kick and Yin Heaven Palm to throw.

    Best Regards,

    Dr. Yancy Orchard

  • Curious, could I see this in real-time speed?

  • @rur0un1x ,

This video clip has not been altered for speed.

I was demonstrating at "walking speed" so the crowd, mostly other martial artists, could see the details of what I was doing, and, also, so Dr. Montgomery, despite his skill in breakfalling, wouldn't have to take too many extremely hard falls in a row (the faster he goes, the harder the throw).

    Thanks for watching,

    Dr. Yancy Orchard

  • Oh sorry, I should have read the comments before asking my question haha...

  • This is by far my favorite clip of Jiulong Baguazhang. So elegant...were you using a particular palm or just free-styling?

  • How do you think Jiulong Baguazhang fairs against styles such as Ziranmen?

  • @XinFuGompa Again, many thanks! I do appreciate it!

  • I really like this. I practice Yin Style, u were very nice in demonstration XinFuGompa

  • Please can you post a clip for roundhouse style kicks?
