Ray Charles was one of the true pioneers of soul music. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world. This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes. The full performance is available on the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux 1997", out now.

Don't we all? He was blind, dealt with addiction and grew up in an area and time when education wasn't freely available. He began to loose his vision at the age of 5. Both of his parent's were dead by the age of 15 which was around when he began using heroin, which he was addicted to for nearly 20 years. He wasn't mentally challenged if that's what you're asking, just a little older and beaten up in this concert.
no he doesnt. The whole movement he does is linked to him being blind. You'll see plenty of blind people aswell as muscians do it. He's also an ex-heroin addict but became clean in the late 60's early 70's so that could be linked in too. No mental issues
But firstly, he became blind at age 6..or 7..i don't know exactly. So he didn't know how he looked alike, did he? ;p Secondly... he was harddrug addicted (heroine etc.) for years.
