Ray Charles was one of the true pioneers of soul music. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world.
This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes.
The full performance is available on the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux 1997", out now.

I'm a girl, for one. Second, I was a little bit tipsy when i wrote that post, also, YouTube specifically has a comment section so people can voice their opinions - as well as a like/dislike bar. No need to get your panties in a bunch over my silly little reply(kinda like i did over the amount of dislikes)... yet ironically, you did! Can't you just enjoy the video? Interesting how that sort of stuff works out, huh? lol

So... who's the "idiot" again? :P

  • Love this song always hits me emotionally even when hearing it at Stone Mountain <3

  • @georgwaa haha i am From GEORGIA))))))))))

  • @Playingabit Not true. There has always been horrible music, and the top 40 has stunk for decades more or less. Good music is still very much out there, finding it just requires some time and attention.

  • People on this Comment Page are dumb.

  • thumbs up if your name is Georgia! :)

  • @Playingabit You just ruined a language too! Go our generation. -_-

  • @ThePixelFaerie I couldn't agree more.

  • I just happened to run across this video and it brings up so many memories. I've always loved this guy music. If you want to read and interesting book read "Ray Charles" I think it's title might be somewhat different but it is an autobiography on him, written by someone else though. It's a great book. I know for a fact, if you were to play in his band you had to be the best, nothing less would do. Rest in peace Ray. Save me a place up there. I know you are still hanging with the best.
