disagree that california would join the warsaw pact and become a wing of the ussr. I imagined it would be lke finland,iceland and denmark as a social democracy. at the height of left wing poltics I see california taking a democratic socialist role. either way interesting video.

I find the alternate history pretty interesting, but as a born and raised Californian, I'd say this.....Californians may be for the most part really left-wing, they would of never been pro-Soviet back if they were independent in this alternate history. Rather they would of been like a smaller Canada or one of the Western European countries. They would of been a partner in NATO and/or a Pacific Defense arrangement but Vietnam would of been the divisive issue.

you're very welcome! What would fascinate me, is how the the population would of broken in terms of support or opposition to the War in Vietnam if volunteers from California signed up with the US army to serve overseas. And a sizable percentage of California citizens serving the armed forces of the US would be an interesting dynamic for both cooperation and conflict. Cooperation in terms of security over North American airspace, but opposition when ti came to Vietnam.

During thencold war, California had one of the highest GLOBAL GDP's. It's always been run by rich socialites/Land Barons. Not a chance of being a Socialist state. Too much money. Lastly, Hollywood wouldn't be able to live up to the expectations of Moscow during the USSR's time. They would be too attached to their ideals of individualism for them to make an effective tool for Stalin and company. Clearly this was for entertainment purposes only since there is very little scholarly merit here.
