First time starting my CX. I took 2+ yrs to tear the bike down to the frame, complete the "triple bypass" (stator, cam chain, water pump mech seal), rebuild forks, remove rust, de-sludge engine, polish and/or paint just about everything (except tank, seat & side covers).. Couldn't believe how easy it started.. I credit Larry "God of Carbs" for that (he rebuilt them).

  • It is definitely a unique engine noise which I can only guess is due to being transversly mounted. I found this snippet which pertains more to the exhaust note, than the "whirr": "Concerned about carburettors and riders' knees colliding, Honda had now twisted the cylinder heads inwards by 22 degrees, giving the engine a very distinctive inlet-exhaust line. The 80-degree firing angle gives the CX that characteristic engine purr, so beloved of V-twin engine fans."
